L’Aquarium Barcelona with Kids
L’Aquarium Barcelona is the largest and the most important Museum of Marine Science of the Mediterranean in Europe, and it has over 11,000 marine animals of 450 species. Your little explorers can watch all the colorful marine creatures swimming around in a larger-than-life tank and experience the magical marine life.
This Aquarium is a popular family travel destination located in Port Vell. We have been there a few times since moving to Spain. With its wide range of marine and aquatic life for kids to explore, we have a blast every time we visit here.
The Entrance
The Aquarium opens all year round; you can purchase the ticket online or at the entrance. We prefer booking our tickets online in advance to skip the line. As soon as you enter the Aquarium, a large slope will take you down to the area with shallow levels of brightness.

The Oceanarium Tunnel
The Oceanarium tunnel is the highlight of Barcelona Aquarium; we enjoy passing through the 80 meters of the exhilarating walk, it feels like walking under the seafloor. The transparent Oceanarium tunnel contains 4 million liters of water, with a size of 36 meters in diameter and 5 meters in depth, the spectacular tunnel features diverse species such as giltheads, moray eels, ocean sunfish, rays, the sand tiger shark, and the sandbar shark.
Tunnel is wheelchair & stroller friendly.
Feeding Time
If you would like to view the feeding activity:
- Sharks: Tuesday and Friday, between noon and 1:00 pm
- Penguins: daily at 11:30 am and 4:30 pm.
- Rays: daily at 2:00 pm. except Sunday*
- Eagle rays and Morays: Monday to Friday at 12:45 pm
Schedule may change, check L’aquarium official site for details.
At the end of the tunnel will bring you to the interactive exhibits, marine education, and the cafeteria session; The food options in the cafeteria are limited and slightly pricey for the given quality, it’s always a good idea to bring snacks or water bottles. Nonetheless, kids were happy eating whatever they have.

Experiences with Sharks
L’Aquàrium offers two diving experiences – shark cage diving and diving with sharks. You will be allowed to enter the oceanarium tunnel to observe sharks and fish close up. Please do note that you will need an official diver certification to participate the diving with sharks.

Another interesting experience that we look forward to having our kids participate in is sleeping with sharks. Barcelona Aquarium invites Children to spend a night underneath the shark tank. Your little explorer can observe how they behave, wake up, or breed.
