Rainbow Village | Travel Taiwan
Rainbow Village is located in Nantun District of Taichung, Taiwan. The village is widely famous for its vibrant painting by a 96-year-old veteran called Mr. Huang. Mr. Huang or known as “Granpa” has handpainted the village with colorful murals, he transformed an “almost demolished” low-cost village into a piece of art. The creativity and the heart-warming story has been covered by several international media outlets.
Rainbow village is such a cute little place with so colorful houses, it provides unique photo opportunities for the family. Rainbow Village is a small area of around 10 houses, expect to spend around an hour to enjoy the colorful paintings.
How to Get there?
The best way to get there is by car. if you are traveling to Taichung from Taipei; High-Speed Rail (THSR), the journey takes around 40-minutes and is the fastest option by public transportation. Once you have arrived at Taichung Rapid Train Station, there are three options available to get to the Rainbow village:
- Taxi: approximately 10 minute
- Walk: 45 minutes (Definitely avoid this option in the summertime)
- Bus: take Taichung bus 99 from the ground floor of the station, or Bus 56 leaves from the adjacent Xinwuri Station.
Always consult the information center at the Taichung Rapid Train Station if you are in doubt.
We actually drove from the Sun Moon Lake to Rainbow Village after our Sun Moon Lake Trip, Rainbow village is about 1 hour and 20 minutes away from the lake.
